Be a better HR Professional

Many years ago, when I (Heidi) had a real job I worked in Human Resources Management. I recall a companywide meeting once where the HR team was accused of not being human, only having resources. When I heard this, I started to understand that our job is a very administration based one, for the people who work for us. If we were focusing on the admin and missing the people, we were missing a great deal of our role for the company, not to mention job satisfaction for the people on my team. Unfortunately, this was well before I was trained and skilled in NLP. Now, however, I get the opportunity to train, consult and coach HR professionals – and the most common topic or theme – communication, interpersonal relationships, managing and motivating, recruiting and getting the human back into the resources. As an HR professional, you will know the diversity of your role and the impact you can have on your company – both positively and negatively. As a cost centre for most companies, you may not always have the financial or time support from other departments to access the resources you need to promote positive change and wellbeing for the company. However, as a person and a person of influence, you can make a positive and proactive change, starting just with you and the HR team. The...

Improve your training and presentation skills

A very dynamic way to use your NLP skills will be to improve your training and presentation skills. In fact, we train a 14-day course (Level 3), teaching you how to use NLP as a tool for training and presentations. Training and presenting is different than teaching, consulting or coaching. Yet, we find that so many people attempt to train others in the same way as they would teach, consult or coach. It generally doesn’t work very well for long-term results. Teaching is sometimes too one way – from the front of the classroom back. Consulting is often too directive, not allowing the learner to actually engage and learn. Coaching is often either too instruction-based (like sports coaching), or too collaborative (like personal coaching) for learning to transpire. Training, however, from an NLP perspective is a two-way approach to disseminating information that can be understood by the mind and processed by the body; making it a robust, creative and engaging process. With NLP as a tool for training and presenting, you will not only be using a person (or a groups) learning style, you will be delivering in a way, order and fashion which will engage everyone. You will also utilise metaphors as a teaching aid (which are SO much more effective than PowerPoint!), spatial anchors to solidify concepts and create states, rapport to create connection and group cohesion,...

Create a sense of internal safety

The base of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs is made up of what he considers our human basic needs; the physiology needs like water, food, warmth and rest and our security needs. Without these basic needs being met, there will be a sense of disorder in our lives. We may have our physiology needs met – but if innately we do not feel safe, we can never be truly free to express ourselves, be vulnerable, be loved or as Maslow puts it, attain self-actualisation. So, I pose a simple question for you that may or may not have simple ramifications. Are you safe? When we meet people who have fears, phobias, anxiety, worry, depression, self-doubt, or a need for control we often find a deep-rooted lack of safety. Even when the person is physically safe in their present moment, the unconscious mind is working overtime to protect, secure and keep the person safe. This safety mechanism occurs in many ways. The most common are excess physical weight, anxiety, fears and hypervigilance when no vigilance is needed. Parents who are overprotective are often missing internal safety themselves. Unfortunately, our children are continually learning from us, so not while we may be keeping our children safe we are teaching them to be overprotective of themselves and others. Ultimately, we cultivate the cycle to be stronger and repeated over time. If safety...

Remove Feelings of Helplessness and Hopelessness

Often patterns of depression or worthlessness include feelings of being helpless and hopeless; definitely not useful, resourceful or particularly nice feelings to have.  A great thing we know from NLP – you haven’t always felt this way. When we meet a person who is feeling helpless or hopeless, not only do we want to know if there are any internal or external factors that have created these feelings so we can alleviate or remove these factors; we also want to know when have you felt good? Your unconscious mind stores the blueprints of the perfect you in body, mind and spirit. It also is the storehouse for every single memory that you have ever, ever, ever had – and with those memories go emotions that create a cellular connection to chemicals, hormones and positive reactions. Therefore, using NLP you can tap back into and restore neurological connections of your desired state – if that is happiness, freedom, peace or simply feeling at ease. Feelings like hopelessness and helplessness are not ones that you have to live with. NLP will help you to reconnect with more resourceful and positive emotions and also will help you to clear, change and reassess any past experiences that have created these feelings to surface in the first...
